120 × 190cm 4ft · four-foot 100% natural latex

A small double — the “four-foot” — is 120 × 190cm: 30cm wider than a single and 15cm narrower than a full double. Room for one adult to stretch right out, or two at a squeeze, in a bedroom that will not take a full double. 100% natural latex, designed in Ireland, in three feels and two depths. Sleeps cool

A breathable eucalyptus cover that pulls heat and moisture off your skin — so you're not the one waking up too warm at 3am.

02

Pressure relief

Springy latex that gives at the shoulders and hips, then bounces back the moment you move. No sinking, no stuck-in-the-bed feeling.

03

Spinal alignment

The firm, zoned core that stops your lower back collapsing out of line — the layer doing the real work against morning stiffness.

04
Support layer

Built to last

A dense latex base that holds everything above it in shape. It's why a Spinery still feels right a decade in, instead of sagging.

Sound familiar?

You've tried everything for your back. Except the thing you sleep on.

Mornings that start stiff and slow.

Physio helps — then a few nights' sleep undo it.

A pricey "orthopaedic" mattress that changed nothing.

Your spine spends more time on your mattress than anywhere else. If it sags out of neutral for 8 hours a night, daytime treatment can't keep up.

Why a mattress, why clinicians

Your physio treats you for 30 minutes. The Spinery is designed to support your spine the other 8 hours — every single night.

In the clinic

On your Spinery

A treatment session ends when you leave the clinic. Sleep is where your spine spends most of its life — so The Spinery was designed by the people who treat backs for a living.

Why The Spinery

Built to do what a mattress is supposed to do

Every layer was specified by clinicians who treat backs for a living — not a marketing team. Here's what that gets you.

Spinal Alignment

Your spine held in neutral, all night

Zoned latex supports your lumbar curve and lets shoulders settle — so your spine stays in neutral alignment on your side, back or front.

Designed by a chiropractor
Pressure Relief

Hips and shoulders, cushioned not crushed

Responsive latex cradles where you press hardest and lifts where you need support — without the slow sink of memory foam.

Three comfort levels, nine sizes
Naturally Cooling

Sleeps cool — no gels, no gimmicks

Perforated latex breathes and the Tencel® cover wicks moisture away — no graphite, no "cooling gel", just natural temperature regulation.

Tencel® breathable cover
100% Natural Latex

Plant-based, non-toxic, lasts 10+ years

Vetted by Dr. Sinéad Moore (PhD) — no polyurethane, no toxic fire retardants, no off-gassing. Built the right way, not the cheap way.

How this mattress came to be

"My patients kept coming back — because their mattresses were undoing the work we did in the clinic."

After 25 years of chiropractic practice, Dr. Lawrence Woods kept seeing the same pattern: progress in the clinic, lost overnight. The mattresses his patients slept on weren't holding the alignment he was helping them recover.

So he designed one that would. He partnered with Dr. Sinéad Moore, a molecular biologist, to vet every material — no polyurethane, no toxic flame retardants, nothing he wouldn't put in his own home. And he brought in Kate Ryan, a chartered physiotherapist, to validate the design across body types and sleep positions.

Three clinicians. One mattress. Not an endorsement deal — the missing piece of the care they were already giving.

What to expect

Most people feel the difference in the first weeks — here's the honest version

Nights 1–3
Firmer than you're used to

Your body has adapted to wherever your old mattress sagged. Proper support feels unfamiliar at first — that's normal.

Week 1
Sleep deepens

Fewer position changes and less partner disturbance as the latex starts working with your body instead of against it.

Weeks 2–3
Mornings feel different

This is when most customers tell us they notice it — getting up without the slow, stiff start to the day.

Week 4+
Your new normal

Full adjustment. And you still have 70+ nights of the trial left to be sure — no pressure, no deadline anxiety.

Size & fit

Will a small double fit your room?

A small double is 120 × 190cm (4ft). It is the compact double — 30cm wider than a 90cm single, 15cm narrower and 10cm shorter than a full 135cm double. It is the size to reach for when a room will not comfortably take a full double but a single is not enough.

It suits a box room, a smaller second bedroom, a teenager's room or a guest room, and gives one adult far more room than a single. Two adults will fit at a squeeze — 60cm each — so for a main bed shared every night, most couples prefer the full double (135cm) or the king (150cm).

For the room, plan for at least 2.5m × 2.7m. A 120 × 190 frame is roughly 125 × 205cm once you add the surround, and you want about 60cm of walking space on each side and at the foot, with the head against a wall. Latex flexes, so our two-person team carries the mattress up typical Irish stairs and through standard door frames — measure the door swing and the landing before you order.

If a small double is not the size you need, the double is 135 × 190cm and the single is 90 × 190cm.

Why Natural Latex

Designed for shipping & price
Designed for shipping & price

A chiropractor (Dr. Lawrence Woods), a chartered physiotherapist (Kate Ryan), and a molecular biologist (Dr. Sinéad Moore) co-specified every layer. Most mass-market mattresses are designed for shippability and price-point — not for the spine on top of them.

Targeted spinal zones
Sinks; can misalign hips
No clinical specification

Targeted zoning means the lumbar gets firmer support and the shoulder gets give — your spine stays in its natural S-curve regardless of position. Memory foam can sink the hips out of alignment over the night; uniform springs leave the lumbar unsupported.

Perforated latex + Tencel®
Traps heat
Airflow through coils

Open-cell natural latex with pinholes through every block, topped with a Tencel® cover that wicks moisture. Memory foam's closed-cell structure traps body heat — a common reason people wake up overheated.

100% natural latex, low-VOC
Petroleum-based foams
Varies by brand

Natural latex, natural-latex adhesive, Tencel® cover. No polyurethane foams and no added brominated flame retardants on our latex layers. Material spec vetted by Dr. Sinéad Moore (PhD, molecular biology).

10+ years
5–7 years before sag
7–10 years

Natural latex doesn't break down the way polyurethane does. Real-world Spinery mattresses are still in service after a decade. Memory foam typically loses meaningful support after 5–7 years; springs can sag or develop pressure points by year 7.

100 nights + Dublin showroom
Trial or showroom, rarely both
Trial or showroom, rarely both

100 nights at home + a free expert fitting in the Dublin showroom. If it isn't right, get in touch between 30 and 100 nights and we'll guide you through the return. Most competitors give you the trial but skip the in-person fitting.

Based on typical mattresses in each category. Individual products vary — that's why the 100-night trial exists.

Common questions

Your questions, answered by our chiropractor

Straight answers from Dr. Lawrence Woods, who designed the layer system.

A small double mattress is 120cm wide by 190cm long (4ft), sometimes called a “four-foot”. It sits between a 90cm single and a 135cm full double — 30cm wider than a single, 15cm narrower than a double.

It can take two at a squeeze — about 60cm each — which is fine for occasional use, a guest room or a younger couple in a small room. For a bed two adults share every night, most people are more comfortable on the full double (135cm) or the king (150cm).

A small double is 120 × 190cm; a full double is 135 × 190cm — 15cm wider, same length. Both use the same natural latex layers and the same three feels; the small double simply fits a room a full double will not. See the double.

Here. We stock the 120 × 190cm small double in both depths — €1,350 in the 20cm Original and €1,685 in the 25cm Elite — with free delivery anywhere in Ireland, a 100-night home trial and a 10-year warranty. You can also lie on it at the Dún Laoghaire showroom before you buy.

The Spinery natural latex small double is €1,350 in the 20cm Original depth and €1,685 in the 25cm Elite depth. The feel you choose — Medium, Medium-Firm or Firm — doesn't change the price, and delivery anywhere in Ireland is free.

Any frame or divan with a 120 × 190cm base — the standard small double / four-foot size. Measure the inside of your slat base to 120 × 190cm before you order. If your frame is a full double it is 135cm wide and needs the double.

Lower-back discomfort that's worse in the morning is often linked to a mattress that lets the lumbar curve drop out of neutral overnight. The Spinery's corrective layer is designed to support the lumbar arch while the comfort layer cushions hips and shoulders. Many customers tell us they notice the difference within the first few weeks — and the 100-night trial gives your body plenty of time to adjust. As always, talk to your physio or GP about persistent back pain.

The Spinery is a mattress, not a medical device — we can't make claims about treating sciatica or disc problems. What we can say is that the design supports proper spinal alignment, which is what your physio or chiropractor works to restore during treatment. If you're in active care, talk to them before changing your sleep setup.

Sleep on it for up to 100 nights at home. We ask for at least 30 nights first — your body needs a couple of weeks to adjust to proper support. If it's not right after that, get in touch and we'll guide you through the return.

Free delivery anywhere in Ireland — and not the "box at your door" kind. Our team brings the mattress to your bedroom, sets it up on your frame, and takes the packaging away. Delivery times vary by location; we'll confirm yours at checkout.

Original (20cm) is the classic — balanced support that suits most sleepers in any position. Elite (25cm) adds deeper contouring for side sleepers, anyone over ~90kg, or anyone with hip and shoulder sensitivity. Both use the same natural latex and Tencel® cover. Still unsure? Visit the showroom and feel both, or ring us on (01) 284 4093.

Boxed mattresses are typically petroleum-based polyurethane foam, vacuum-compressed to optimise shipping cost — not sleep. The Spinery is 100% natural latex that's never compressed, designed by three named clinicians, delivered to your bedroom and assembled for you, and built to last 10+ years instead of 5–7. It costs more upfront. It also doesn't need replacing twice as often.

Manufacturing defects and structural issues — visible sagging beyond normal wear, splitting or cracking of the latex core, and cover or seam defects. Natural latex doesn't develop the permanent body impressions memory foam does, which is why we can stand behind it for a decade.
